Long Live the Long Fall

I decided that this afternoon was an opportune time to write a point6 fall mud season blog post.  I am having trouble finding mud season blog inspiration because it’s sunny and in the 60’s in Steamboat.  I was all set to write a post on dealing with the muck, mud, dirt, leaves, rain, sleet, pumpkin flavoring and depressing blah of mud season and now I’ve changed my mind.  It is so hard to be annoyed with the muck of mud season when there is no muck to muck things up.  It’s so hard to complain about not getting outside enough because the weather is super miserable when you’ve been running and biking every day for the past week under clear skies and perfect mild temps.  We’re spoiled, you get the idea.  So, here are some positives on mud season because it will turn and it will be soup season and pumpkin flavored everything season soon enough so let’s talk about how fabulous Indian summer is, eh?

For starters…the few cold and miserable days we have had have contributed to keeping the mountain bike trails nice and damp and tacky.  Yay Indian summer!  If you decide to chance fate on the white ribbon of death at one of the early opened ski areas you can still ski in a t-shirt and trucker hat.  Yay Indian summer!  Bike commuting is still possible without being labeled “crazy”.  Yay Indian summer!  The rooftop bars and al fresco dining patios are still open for business.  Yay Indian summer!  I have had to do only one fall workout on the dreadmill so far due to inclement weather.  Yay Indian summer!  Without a bunch of wind and heavy rain the pretty leaves stay on the trees longer.  Yay Indian summer!   And let’s not forget that with the nice temps during the day, you can wear your point6 socks with your sneaks to work in the morning and then switch out for flip flops later in the day!  Yay Indian summer!  (or rock the sock/flop look all day if you work from home or have been labeled “crazy” by your coworkers)

Maybe I’m just making myself feel better for not booking a trip to the beach this mud season but hey, who needs the beach when you’ve got all this?  The snow will come, the pow will be deep, but long live the long fall.
