Point6 Trail Stories: North Maroon Peak - That High Altitude Nature Fix

North Maroon Peak - That High Altitude Nature Fix

We have an early bird in the Point6 office. We admire him. We'd like to have the same response to our alarm clocks on a Sunday morning. But we don't.

This weekend, that early bird summited North Maroon Peak. And with a 4am wake-up, his only companion on the ascent was his trusty sidekick and a few mountain goats.

His advice for this hike? Start early. This is a popular one and these peaks are the some of the most frequently photographed in Colorado. They won't disappoint. But be prepared. This is a very serious climb and with loose rock tumbling above and below, you should absolutely wear a helmet.

The climbing "gets a little sporty" above the second gully, so watch your footing on that notoriously loose rock and summit safely.

Avalanche carnage in the surrounding area also makes for an impressive approach to the climb. Nature finds a way.

This crew finished the hike and the 4500+ feet of climbing in about 8 hours.

If you're on the trail this weekend, let us know. We'd love to feature your adventures on our Trail Stories.

Be safe. Make good decisions. Summit smart.
